If you happen to be at the gym where I workout then there’s one thing you could do that would really, really annoy me: dare to use my stepper when it’s my day to do cardio.
Now, it’s not technically “mine” per se, but it is, in fact, my absolute favorite go-to machine for cardio. And so if there are foreign feet upon its pedals then I tend to not be a happy gym bunny.

I do use other equipment, of course. I'm not always happy about it, but I do. And whether it’s by choice or because of lack of another option, it’s definitely a beneficial thing to mix it up. It’s good to shake your booty in a different direction, if you will.
The experts (you know how smart they are always) have even given this whole ‘do something different’ concept a name: cross training!
So what’s in it for you?
Nix Boredom – Face it, you don’t want to be known by your fellow gym-goers as a bore. I mean, do you want people to yawn when they see you coming? The surefire fix is to spice it up. Try Spinning, workout your anger in kickboxing, find your inner calm in a session of yoga, go for a jog, dance it up in Zumba, pump some iron, get long and lean in Pilates, break out the bathing suit and go for a swim, and so on and so on.
Let’s you be like Gumby – You remember him, Mr. Flexible himself. The idea here is that being open to different stuff lets you adapt easily and go with the flow. Maybe there’s something funky floating in the pool. Being flexible means you’ll just grab your kicks and hit the road running. No biggie!
Less chance that OUCH! will become part of your vocabulary – If you keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over then there’s a greater probability that you’ll injure yourself. Ever hear of tennis elbow or runner’s knee? Not things you want. So if you mix it up, if you keep your fellow gym-goers in suspense, wondering what you’ll do next, you’re doing your body a big favor. Plus, you’ll also be preventing, maybe even correcting, muscle imbalances. And how cool would that be?!?!?
